AUXILIARY UNIT MISSION STATEMENT:
The purpose of this unit is to assist the Fire Department in Fund Raising Projects, maintaining the building(s) and property, promote good public relations, and in general assist the Firefighters in any way possible for the betterment of Cowee and Oak Grove Communities.
Cowee Volunteer Fire & Rescue
The Auxiliary Unit of Cowee Fire & Rescue actually existed many years before the fire department was organized. Sid Davis held weekly BBQ's at Franklin's "Pickin' on the Square" to raise money for the future Cowee Volunteer Fire & Rescue.
In 1982, Sid Davis and Jimmy Hedden were instrumental in acquiring the first fire truck for Cowee from the Dade County Florida Fire Department. They were assisted in their efforts by Chief Karl Heffelfinger. There are several other men and women who assisted and volunteered countless hours in the effort to form the Cowee Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department.
Following the Mission Statement, the Auxiliary Unit continues to assist the fire department in any way possible for the betterment of the Cowee and Oak Grove Communities. We prepare meals, hold fundraisers such as spaghetti suppers, sponsor events - "Singing in the Valley" - and raffle a quilt that is handmade by the Cowee Quilters. In, 2010 we created a cookbook, "Cowee Firehouse Favorites".
Buy your copy of Cowee Firehouse Favorites with over 500 recipes for $15.00 from Cowee Convenience Store or any member of the Auxiliary or Fire Department.
New members are always welcome! To become a member please contact either Chief Wayne Pruett or Assistant Chief Dustin Pendergrass.
